Women's Rights Are Human Rights

A Women's Conference Sponsored by the

MCC Student Governance Council

This conference has been organized to initiate a dialogue among social service agencies, business and legal professionals, non-profit organizations and individual community members for the purpose of addressing difficult issues that affect our community as a whole. Domestic violence and women's prisons are two closely-linked social concerns that could potentially benefit from such collaborative discussion and creative problem-solving.

The conference will begin with a brief global overview on the status of women and the international instruments that currently exist to articulate women's issues. The focus then shifts to a local view as we examine concerns facing women in our own community. Subsequent
panels will feature both professionals who have worked through various social institutions and women who have been on the receiving end of institutionalized treatment.

By uniting these two groups we hope to identify "what works" and "what is not working." Conference participants will then organize in a breakout session where each attendee is invited to offer ideas that lead to solutions.

Following the breakout session facilitators will record recommendations that have been identified. These results will then be published as a "Programme of Action" and distributed to state and county officials, as well as all groups throughout the state who address the status of women.

Participants are asked to come prepared for a day of intriguing discussions and focused problem-solving, enhanced with ample breaks and snacks--and a delicious catered lunch.

Social change is created through awareness, vision, organization, perseverance and action.

In the spirit of dynamic social change we invite you to participate in a Women's Conference to be held on International Women's Day.
